What is Sexual Harassment?
Under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, unwelcome sexual advances maybe considered illegal if:
- Submitting to sexual advances becomes the explicit or implicit condition of employment
- The employee's response to sexual advances becomes the basis for employment decisions such as promotion, transfer, or termination
- The advances create a hostile, intimidating, or offensive environment that interferes with an individual's performance
Facts concerning sexual harassment:
- Sexual harassment is illegal!
- Sexual harassment reduces productivity.
- Sexual harassment is costly (ex:legal costs, training, counseling, turnover, negative impact on the workplace, etc.)
- Offenders can be sued on charges of sexual harassment.
